Gender Mainstreaming

Gender Mainstreaming

The mission statement of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences refers to diversity and variety as enriching and presenting opportunities. We actively promote equality and equal opportunities and recognise the importance of gender balance in all areas of our University of Applied Sciences. With this in mind, we are committed to targeted measures to consistently promote women in leadership positions, in research and teaching, and in administration. At the same time, we are working intensively to create optimal conditions so that all university members can equally balance their academic and professional goals with their family commitments.

Equality between women and men is a fundamental right enshrined in Article 3 of German Constitution.

At the federal level and at the level of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, this fundamental right is enshrined in law through corresponding regulations.

Equal opportunities officers at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences act as contact persons for university members and students in cases of gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment and discrimination. A ”Gender Mainstreaming Plan“ forms the basis for the work of the equal opportunities officers.

At the Senate session on 9 October 2024, a ”Safety Plan“ for Koblenz University of Applied Sciences was adopted. This applies to all members of the university. This makes the university one of the first in Germany to have such a plan in place. The aim is to raise awareness of, and draw attention to, forms of (sexualised) discrimination, harassment and violence, to take preventive measures and to encourage those affected to seek support and exercise their right to file a complaint.
